Learn Early Childhood Tips and Strategies Today!

Join Sue for an upcoming Live Virtual Workshop where you will learn Sue’s practical tips & strategies to make a difference.

Over 400 Early Child Educators told me their top 2 questions they wanted answered, and I used those to create these Tips & Strategies

What you will learn:

βœ… Perfect Camera Moment Teaching: “When you take a photo one second before you could have had a horrible face, one second after you could have had a horrible face. You’ve gotta find that sweet spot.”

βœ… Four Teaching Approaches: Direct teaching (one-on-one quiet environment), engineered situations (setting up pointing opportunities at eating time), incidental teaching (daily opportunities), and making it fun with animation.

βœ… Backward Training Success: “If you’re teaching a child to put their shoes on, you might actually put the whole shoe on, and all they have to do is one Velcro.”

βœ… Clear Lunchbox Communication: “Get one of an old fashioned lunchbox… if the child doesn’t have object permanence… on top you might put a picture of their sandwich and their apple.”

βœ… GPS Communication Style: “Think how a GPS talks a calm, monotone voice… you shouldn’t be using more words than the child. Probably just one or two more words.”

βœ… Now-Next-Later Board: “Put a photo of the child, maybe write their name as well… Personally, I like to have the thing they like in the next in the middle.”

βœ… Sensory Regulation Toolkit: “You might have those tools in a basket, in a tent for some children. But some children need big body breaks. They need to go and throw things or hang on the monkey bars.”

βœ… Toilet Timing Preparation: “Start taking them with other children, getting them involved in the process. Even if they’re flushing, putting toilet paper in flushing, washing their hands.”

βœ… Visual Multiplication Strategy: “Be eclectic with your visuals and always add speech with the visuals… You still need to allow the child process to look at the picture.”

βœ… Two-Goal Implementation: “Let’s pretend we’re working on the child waiting and finishing where everybody’s gonna work on that. The OT, the speech, the psychologists, the grandparents.”

Training in the first term often presents challenges:

  • Don't want a day out for training when setting up class at the start of the year.
  • Students with neurodiversity may start off dysregulated because the necessary structures and strategies are not yet in place.
  • Educators find themselves playing catch-up while addressing 'behaviours'.
  • Many educators feel overwhelmed.
