Lesson Outline

Lesson 1 – Emotional Awareness Foundations (15 min)

  • Use real names & settings (Tip 1): e.g. “How do you think Jamie felt when the swing broke?”
  • Follow a Name–Show–Manage formula (Tip 2) with picture-book examples:

Name itShow it  – Manage it

  • Quick, fun variation drills: present 3 rapid “Feelings Flash” scenarios and have students rotate through cards.

Lesson 2 – Coping & Self-Regulation Toolkit (20 min)

  • Frame directions positively (Tip 5): e.g. “When upset, use your breathing buddy” (not “Don’t shout”).

  • Catch & reward correct strategy use (Tip 6)—implement a simple token system for on-the-spot wins.

  • Practice across settings (Tip 7): rehearse calm-down in the classroom, on the playground, and even at home (video role-play).

Lesson 3 – Authentic Social Interaction (25 min)

  • Role-play using a Script Formula (Tip 2 & 3):

    • Greet – Engage – Exit

  • Peer-mediated modeling (Tip 8): pair neurotypical and neurodiverse students in structured “Buddy Chats.”

  • Daily practice & reflection (Tip 9): set a 2-minute end-of-day check-in to share successes and challenges.
